This new policy replaces the facet joint injections and medial branch blocks in secondary care and spinal and back pain injections policies.
There are many different types of spinal injections performed in the management of low back pain. There are a variety of different techniques, and many are used in conjunction with other therapies, for example, fitness, stretching and exercise programmes.
Usually the injected agents aim to soothe inflamed tissue or calm excessive nerve activity, but some (sclerosants) aim to induce inflammation and stimulate healthy new tissue growth.
