In the UK, less than 3 in 10 autistic people work. In other countries, such as Sweden, this is 6 in 10.<\/p>\n

Autistic people have reported to us directly, and through research, that job interviews and the first few days of work are difficult.<\/p>\n

Face-to-face interviews in unfamiliar settings cause anxiety. The work environment includes situations, sounds, and objects that are upsetting. These things lead to poor interview performance and people finding jobs too stressful to continue.<\/p>\n

\u0997\u09ac\u09c7\u09b7\u09a3\u09be\u09b0 \u0989\u09a6\u09cd\u09a6\u09c7\u09b6\u09cd\u09af \u0995\u09c0?<\/h2>\n

We aim, in the long term, to increase employment among autistic people in the UK. We will make a set of \u2018virtual reality scenes\u2019 to help autistic people know what it is like to have job interviews and experience the first few days of work.<\/p>\n

This will help them to know what to expect, be less anxious and increase their chances of getting and keeping jobs.<\/p>\n

\u098f\u099f\u09be \u0995\u09bf\u09ad\u09be\u09ac\u09c7 \u0985\u09b0\u09cd\u099c\u09a8 \u0995\u09b0\u09be \u09b9\u09ac\u09c7?<\/h2>\n

We will create virtual reality (VR) environments so autistic people can practise job interviews and being at work, building confidence and finding strategies that work for them.<\/p>\n

1. Review research studies and other work involving autistic people, to understand the main causes of anxiety and stress during interviews and early employment.<\/p>\n

2. Work with autistic people and a VR company to create virtual environments of situations occurring during job interviews and the first few days of work, along with a training package for those helping autistic people to work.<\/p>\n

3. Obtain feedback from a new group of people, whilst working out what we need for a bigger study to see if the VR environments improve employment in autistic people. We will finalise the VR environments and training materials for the bigger study.<\/p>\n
