The information on this page is not a complete list but an overview of opportunities. Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire are covered by the South West regional hub. They offer group and one-to-one sessions run by peer educators to help parents and carers find the information and services available in your area. Hubs may also run events such as workshops, drop-in sessions, coffee mornings or virtual meet-ups.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.autismcentral.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Find out more on the Autism Central website.<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Parenting support programmes<\/h3>\n<p>For children or young people with an autism diagnosis, parenting training programmes may be available: EarlyBird (under 5 years), EarlyBird Plus (ages 4-9) and Teen Life (ages 10-16). <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autism.org.uk\/what-we-do\/support-in-the-community\/family-support\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">More information can be found on the National Autistic Society family support page.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Our three local council websites also include details of parenting support training that may be helpful to families with neurodivergent children.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bristol.gov.uk\/bristol-family-hubs\/parenting-courses\" rel=\"noopener\">Bristol City Council parenting courses<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/n-somerset.gov.uk\/my-services\/children-young-people-families\/family-hubs-north-somerset\/advanced-parenting-groups\" rel=\"noopener\">North Somerset Council advanced parenting groups<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/life.southglos.gov.uk\/kb5\/southglos\/directory\/advice.page?id=HTIbXPBFOs8&amp;familychannel=6-1&amp;channel=family\" rel=\"noopener\">South Gloucestershire Council parenting programmes<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Training for health and care staff<\/h3>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.e-lfh.org.uk\/programmes\/the-oliver-mcgowan-mandatory-training-on-learning-disability-and-autism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism<\/a> is the standardised training that was developed for health and social care staff to ensure they receive learning disability and autism training appropriate to their role. Always make sure any research you take part in is from a trusted and credible research body.<\/p>\n<h3>Charities<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.autism.org.uk\/what-we-do\/who-we-are\/research\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The National Autistic Society supports research in a range of different areas.<\/a> They also have an email address for autistic individuals to contact if they are interested in becoming involved in research.<\/p>\n<h3>Universities<\/h3>\n<p>Many trusted universities and charities do research about neurodiversity and neurodevelopmental conditions.
