Campaign launched to encourage young people to take up the HPV vaccine<\/strong><\/h1>\n

The vaccine is not just for girls. HPV can affect people of all genders, which is why vaccination is routinely offered to all young people aged 12 and 13. Anyone who missed their vaccination when younger can receive a free catch-up vaccination up until their 25th birthday.\u00a0Please see nhs.uk\/vaccinations\/hpv-vaccine<\/a>\u00a0for eligibility.<\/p>\n

Dr Glenda Beard, local GP and Cancer Lead at NHS Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire ICB, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe HPV vaccine is a safe and effective way to protect against several types of cancer. We want every young person to have the opportunity to benefit, so I would encourage anyone under 25 who is unsure whether they have received it to check their vaccination record and contact their GP practice if they need to catch up.<\/p>\n

\u201cTaking this simple step now can help protect your health for years to come.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Local people will see \u2018Protection Looks Good On You\u2019 campaign materials across buses, on social media channels and at in-person events across the area with local HPV Health\u00a0Ambassadors attending freshers events at local colleges to provide more information about HPV, including vaccination.<\/p>\n

Young people who are unsure if they missed the vaccination are encouraged to check their vaccination history with their GP practice or through the NHS App, where available. If they have missed the vaccine, they can contact their GP practice to arrange a catch-up appointment.<\/p>\n

The HPV vaccine is safe, well-tested and has been given to millions of people worldwide. Its strong safety record is supported by extensive monitoring.<\/p>\n
