Template: template-text - Matched: _only --><section class=\"w-full mx-auto max-w-content pt-3 sm:pt-6 pb-3 sm:pb-6\">\r\n  <div class=\"entry-content w-full !px-0 max-w-small\">\r\n        <h2>Becoming a Medical Examiner<\/h2>\n<p>You can apply to become a Medical Examiner if you:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Have five years\u2019 experience as a fully registered medical practitioner<\/li>\n<li>Are currently practicing or have recently retired<\/li>\n<li>Hold a licence to practice with the General Medical Council<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition, you\u2019ll need to demonstrate:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Up to date knowledge of medical conditions and causes of death<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of recent legislation and processes<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of local and national clinical governance systems<\/li>\n<li>Strong communication skills that enable service delivery in a compassionate, professional and discreet manner<\/li>\n<li>An ability to work in a Multi-Disciplinary Team<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Appointment to the role of Medical Examiner is contingent on the completion of the mandatory components of an e-learning programme and a face-to-face training session run under the auspices of the Royal College of Pathologists.<\/p>\n      <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rcpath.org\/profession\/medical-examiners\/train-to-become-a-medical-examiner.html\" class=\"btn-link flex w-[fit-content] \" rel=\"noopener\">Further information on the role of Medical Examiner and training<\/a>\n\n<p>Application for the role of Medical Examiner can be made on completion of the e-learning programme component only, with any appointment then made contingent on completion of the face-to-face training session within 3 months of appointment.<\/p>\n      <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rcpath.org\/profession\/conferences\/events.html\" class=\"btn-link flex w-[fit-content] \" rel=\"noopener\">See The Royal College of Pathologists Conferences and CPD events calendar<\/a>\n\n      <a href=\"https:\/\/www.e-lfh.org.uk\/programmes\/medical-examiner\/\" class=\"btn-link flex w-[fit-content] \" rel=\"noopener\">Go to the Medical Examiner e-learning module<\/a>\n\n<p>Further online modules are available as part of an ongoing CPD programme.<\/p>\n<p>The Medical Examiner Service will provide a full scrutiny of death service during the week from Monday to Friday during office hours and will operate a Medical Examiner telephone out of hours service only on weekends and Bank Holidays between 7:30am and 6pm. This is <strong>only<\/strong> to allow the early release of bodies where appropriate, for example to adhere to requirements of a particular faith and to act as a contact point for professional advice in these cases.<\/p>\n<p>In applying for a role, you will be committing to work a given number of sessions per year, with a weekly Job Plan agreed and these will be confirmed during the appointment process.<\/p>\n  <\/div>\r\n  <\/section><\/div><!-- .assembler_text-module.assembler_module.assembler_text-module_4.assembler_module_4..transparent --><div class=\"assembler_text-module assembler_module assembler_text-module_5 assembler_module_5  transparent\"><a tabindex=\"-1\" title=\"Section titled module-5\" id=\"module-5\" href=\"https:\/\/bnssghealthiertogether.org.uk\/sq\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/12091\/#module-5\" class=\"anchor\"><span class=\"hidden\">Section titled module-5<\/span><\/a><!-- Template found for text-module - Template: template-text - Matched: _only --><section class=\"w-full mx-auto max-w-content pt-3 sm:pt-6 pb-3 sm:pb-6\">\r\n  <div class=\"entry-content w-full !px-0 max-w-small\">\r\n        <h2><strong>Becoming a Medical Examiner Officer<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>You can apply to become a Medical Examiner Officer if:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You are educated to degree level or have equivalent practical experience.<\/li>\n<li>You have qualifications\/skills in day-to-day operational\/process management of a customer-facing service where users may have unpredictable and emotionally charged needs.<\/li>\n<li>You have highly evolved empathetic and self-awareness skills to deal with bereaved families who may have barriers to understanding information due to their grief or disability.<\/li>\n<li>You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.<\/li>\n<li>You have an understanding of medical terminology that enables informed discussions about causes\/circumstances of death with bereaved families, clinicians, coroner and registration service staff.<\/li>\n<li>You have the ability to work in a highly pressurised, unpredictable environment where bereavement care is central to the service delivery.<\/li>\n<li>You are computer literate to use multiple IT software for recording personal identifiable data and producing statistical information for the National Medical Examiner\u2019s Office and Public Health surveillance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Desirable knowledge for the role includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>knowledge of the statutory process around death certification legal frameworks and how the Medical Examiner system aligns with other related organisations and NHS initiatives<\/li>\n<li>knowledge of various faith groups\u2019 funeral wishes\/practices to enable respectful compliance with tight and specific timescales and procedures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Appointment to the role of Medical Examiner Officer is contingent on the completion of an e-learning programme with any appointment then made contingent on completion of the Royal College of Pathologists face-to-face training session within a reasonable time period (expected to be 3 months).
