Industrial action is due to take place Wednesday 21 December 2022 and [updated] Wednesday 11 January 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Many parts of the NHS are likely to feel the impact of the industrial action, either directly or indirectly, and people are being urged to use ambulance services responsibly.<\/p>\n<p>Where the situation is not life-threatening, alternative support will be available through\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/111.nhs.uk\/\" rel=\"noopener\">NHS 111 online<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0or through calling NHS 111, and where possible, it is advised that you arrange alternative transport.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jnr2Vj8XNR0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">The NHS is also asking the public to play their part by taking simple steps during industrial action to look after themselves, loved ones and checking in on vulnerable family members and neighbours. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">People can help by taking sensible measures to keep themselves and others safe during this period by not ending up in A&amp;E \u2013 such as drinking responsibly or stocking up on their medication.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>When to dial 999 <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Call 999 for life-threatening emergencies such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cardiac arrest<\/li>\n<li>Loss of consciousness<\/li>\n<li>Fits that aren\u2019t stopping<\/li>\n<li>Chest pain,<\/li>\n<li>Breathing difficulties<\/li>\n<li>Severe bleeding<\/li>\n<li>Severe allergic reactions<\/li>\n<li>Suspected stroke<\/li>\n<li>Serious head injuries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>More information about when to dial 999 is available on the <strong><u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/nhs-services\/urgent-and-emergency-care-services\/when-to-call-999\/\" rel=\"noopener\">NHS England website<\/a><\/u><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Other health and care services <\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>GP services are operating as normal on days when there is strike action. Contact your GP if you have symptoms that will not go away.<\/li>\n<li>Local pharmacies can help with a range of minor illnesses and ailments. See our <strong><u><a href=\"https:\/\/bnssg.icb.nhs.uk\/health-and-care\/winter-illnesses\/\" rel=\"noopener\">winter wellness page<\/a><\/u><\/strong> on how to treat common winter illnesses.<\/li>\n<li>Minor injury unit \u2013 attend your local minor injuries unit for urgent not life threatening conditions and injuries such as sprains, fractures and burns.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Discharge from hospital<\/h2>\n<p>Trusts are also asking relatives and carers to do everything they can to work with staff to get their loved ones home from hospital as soon as they are fit for discharge.
