It will bring together a GP practice, replacing Graham Road Surgery, alongside community and mental health services and a pharmacy.

The NHS invited residents, patients, staff, partners and local organisations to suggest possible names for the new health centre as part of the first phase of engagement. More than 350 submissions were received and reviewed against agreed naming criteria, including whether names were clear, welcoming, inclusive and relevant to the local area.

Popular suggestions included names linked to the centre’s location near Weston railway station, such as Stationside, Station Approach Medical Practice, Station View Medical Centre and Straight Track Medical Centre. Coastal and local landmark ideas also featured strongly, including The Bay Health Centre, Seabreeze Health Centre, Birnbeck Medical Centre, Seaview Surgery, Pier View Health Centre, Weston Bay Surgery, Beach View Medical Centre and Pavilion Practice. Some suggestions honoured people with strong Weston connections, including Jill Dando, John Cleese, Henry Butt, Mary Brazier, Brian Austin and Dr Edward Long Fox. Overall, the suggestions showed a strong sense of pride in Weston and its identity.

A shortlisting panel, including representatives from local health and care organisations, has now agreed a shortlist of three names for the next stage of public engagement.

The shortlisted names are:

Station Health Centre

Weston Gateway Health Centre

Weston Health Hub

The three names were shortlisted because they are clear, welcoming and easy to recognise, while each reflects an important aspect of the new centre. Station Health Centre highlights its location close to Weston railway station; Weston Gateway Health Centre reflects the site’s position as a gateway to the town and to a range of health and care services; and Weston Health Hub emphasises the different services that will be brought together under one roof.

David Jarrett, Chief Strategic Commissioning Officer at NHS Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Integrated Care Board, said:

“Thank you to everyone who took the time to suggest a name for the new Weston health centre. We received more than 350 suggestions, showing just how much interest there is in this important new development for the town.

“The shortlisted names have been carefully reviewed against agreed criteria, and we’re now asking local people to help choose the final name. The name of the centre should feel welcoming, recognisable and connected to the community it will serve, so we’d encourage residents, patients, staff and partners to take part in the vote.”

The public vote is open until midnight on Sunday 15 November. People can vote online by completing the online voting form.

Paper copies of the voting form are also available on request via Graham Road Surgery for anyone who is unable to take part online.

The shortlisted name receiving the highest number of votes will become the final name of the new health centre, with the result expected to be announced in November.

Councillor Mike Bell, Leader of North Somerset Council, who was part of the naming panel, said:

“The new health centre is a major investment in Weston-super-Mare and an important part of improving access to health and care services for local people.

“As a member of the naming panel, I was pleased to see the range of thoughtful and creative suggestions put forward by local people. We chose these three names because they are clear, welcoming and easy to recognise, while reflecting the centre’s location and its role in bringing health and care services together for the community. The public vote gives residents another opportunity to shape a facility that will support the town’s growing population for years to come.”

Construction of the new health centre started in February 2026. Once open, the centre will provide modern, purpose-built facilities for Weston’s growing population and support improved access to joined-up health and care services in the local area.

Members of the public are invited to vote for the name of the new health centre by completing the online voting form. It closes at midnight on Sunday 15 November.

Local people can now have their say on the final name for Weston-super-Mare’s new neighbourhood health centre, after more than 350 suggestions were submitted over the summer.

[1

post-50071","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
