Trauma and adversity can significantly impact individuals, families, communities, and our workforce. These experiences influence how people engage with services and are closely linked to poorer mental and physical health outcomes, particularly for those experiencing deprivation and existing inequalities.

Staff are also affected, often encountering trauma directly or indirectly. Without support, this can lead to stress and burnout.

Embedding trauma-informed approaches is a key enabler for delivering our ICS strategy, helping us provide safer, more equitable, and compassionate care.

We are committed to creating a trauma-informed system. Our Trauma-Informed Pledge brings together partners from health, social care, education, policing, and the voluntary sector to adopt shared principles and practices.

The Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Trauma-Informed Systems Programme, hosted within the ICB, supports this work by:

Providing workforce training and support
Embedding trauma-informed principles in service design and commissioning
Promoting co-production with people with lived experience
Creating safer, more supportive environments for staff and people using services.
