Celebrating International Women’s Day

8 March marks International Women’s Day and this year’s theme is about inspiring inclusion.

The Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Integrated Care System (ICS) is working with our colleagues in public health, general practice, sexual health, community care, hospitals and in the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector to better understand and meet the health needs of different groups of women, including people who do not identify as a woman.

Dr Joanne Medhurst, Women’s Health Champion for Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire ICS said:

“We’re committed to making women’s health about empowerment, equity, and ensuring every woman has the resources and support to lead a healthy, fulfilling life.

“That’s why we’re taking forward a project to improve health services for women, including improvements to address access, experience and inequalities within menopause and contraception services across our area.”

As part of this work, a new Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Women’s Health Steering Group has been established, which will oversee improvements to how services are provided across our local area. We are delighted to have two public contributors to support us in our work, and will be involving patients and members of the public in the design of changes as plans develop.
