NHS services this bank holiday: What you need to know
16 September 2022
The NHS across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire is committed to supporting our colleagues and those in our care to have the opportunity to pay their respects to Her Majesty and commemorate Her reign.
As Monday 19 September has been declared a national Bank Holiday we are providing our usual Bank Holiday services. Hospital, community, primary, and mental health services are contacting individuals directly where appointments need to be rescheduled. Seven-day services, such as NHS 111, will be available for those that need them.
Restocking your medicine cabinet, getting to know your GP practice’s opening times and planning your repeat subscriptions ahead of time can ensure you are prepared.
NHS 111 for urgent care
If you need medical help urgently but it’s not a life-threatening emergency, contact NHS 111 first rather than going straight to A&E. NHS 111 will help you right away and direct you to the best service for your needs.
Pharmacy
Some pharmacies in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire will have different opening hours over the bank holiday weekend. To find out the opening times for your local pharmacies, use the ‘find a pharmacy’ tool on the NHS website.
You can also find a pharmacy opening hours over the bank holiday on the NHS website.
GP services
Some GP services may be closed on the bank holiday Monday. If you have an appointment scheduled on this day and your GP is closed, your practice will be in touch with you.
Visit your local practice website for opening arrangements.
Dental appointments
If you require urgent dental treatment during the bank holiday weekend, contact your regular dentist. If your dentist is unavailable, use NHS 111 online to find out information about your local out-of-hours services.
