Professor Sir Steve West lives in Wick, Bristol. Steve trained as a Podiatrist and Podiatric Surgeon, and worked as a clinician and clinical tutor in the NHS and the university sector. He also undertook research and consultancy in the industry and the retail healthcare sectors.
Steve has been employed by the University of the West of England since 2006, and has been the Vice-Chancellor, President and Chief Executive since September 2007.
Steve has also held several national and international advisory appointments in Higher Education, in his clinical discipline, and in healthcare policy and practice. He is currently the President of Universities UK, is a Non-Executive Director with University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust, is the Chair of the West of England Academic Health Science Network, and until 2021 was a Non-Executive Director at the Office for Students and Chair of the West of England Local Enterprise Partnership.
Steve ayrıca Gloucestershire Kontluğu'nda Vali Yardımcılığı görevinde bulunmuş ve Yüksek Öğretime yaptığı hizmetlerden dolayı 2017 Yeni Yıl Onur Listesi'nde Britanya İmparatorluğu Nişanı Komutanı (CBE) unvanına layık görülmüştür.
