Our equality objectives, approved by the NHS Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire ICB Board in March 2025, set out how we will work to reduce health inequalities, improve equity and create a more inclusive organisation.
The objectives focus on four priority areas: maternity care, ethnicity data recording, workforce equality and cardiovascular disease. Together, they will help us identify and address inequalities in health and care across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.
Because cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the largest contributors to health inequalities. NHS Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire ICB aims to improve the treatment of high blood pressure in our Black African and Caribbean populations so that 80% reach treatment targets by 2029.
We will also reduce the gap between our Black African and Caribbean populations and our white population to within 3 percentage points
To increase the administration of optimally timed antenatal steroids and magnesium sulphate in our population racialised as Black at risk of pre-term birth within Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire by March 2026
Increase the completeness of ethnicity recording in the patient administration systems of Bristol NHS Foundation Trust and Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust to 80% for Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire patients by 2027.
We are currently developing our organisational development plan, which will further detail the activities being undertaken to support these strategic objectives, some of which can be found within our Public Sector Equality Duty report.
