Could you help motivate next generation of health and social care workers in the area? Local organisations have launched the Health and Social Care Ambassador programme, offering people working or studying in health and social care the opportunity to speak in schools and colleges about their roles, sharing their career journeys and inspiring the next generation of health and social care professionals.

The programme aspires to:

• Support young people to make informed choices and consider the full range of roles and professions within health and social care, help to dispel myths and ensure young people have a realistic view of the world of work and the routes into it.
• the future healthcare workforce by getting young people interested in different roles and professions within health and social care.
• develop the talent pool and ensure a skilled workforce in the future.

Being a Health and Social Care Ambassador is free, easy, effective and fun. Ambassadors and education providers are connected securely online, and volunteering takes place either virtually or near were you live or work as ambassadors can specify the geographic locations that suits them. Disclosure and Barring Service are not needed for career insights talks and educational activities, as a teacher is always present.

By providing just three hours of your time per year to take part in careers events and activities, you could inspire a young person, or group of young people to take the first steps in a career like yours.

Once signed up, you will be invited to a training session and provided with access to a quarterly support group. When you feel comfortable, you will be invited by a school or college to take part in  careers fairs, career networking or lunchtime talks to young people. Schools and colleges will send secure messages directly to ambassadors to see if they can attend. Typically, ambassadors will visit a school or college once a year to speak with young people.
