Our commitment to tackling antisemitism, anti-Muslim hostility and all forms of racism
NHS Bristol North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Integrated Care Board (ICB) is committed to creating an inclusive environment for our staff, patients and communities, and to tackling racism in all its forms.
We believe everyone should be treated with dignity, respect and fairness and should feel safe when accessing healthcare, working in the NHS or engaging with our organisation.

Definitions adopted by the ICB
NHS Bristol North Somerset and South Gloucestershire ICB has adopted the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism and the UK Government’s non-statutory definition of anti-Muslim hostility.
International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism
“Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities.”
UK Government non-statutory definition of anti-Muslim hostility
The UK Government’s definition states that anti-Muslim hostility includes criminal acts, prejudicial stereotyping and unlawful discrimination directed at Muslims or people perceived to be Muslim.

Our commitment
We support the NHS commitment to tackling racism and discrimination and have signed up to the NHS Race and Health Observatory’s Seven Anti-Racism Principles.
As an NHS organisation, we are committed to:
- promoting an inclusive and anti-racist culture
- ensuring staff feel safe, valued and respected
- listening to the experiences of staff, patients and communities
- addressing health inequalities and reducing barriers to healthcare
- embedding equality, diversity and inclusion in our work as a commissioner of health services and as an employer.
We will continue to work with staff, partners and local communities to help ensure everyone is treated with dignity, respect and fairness.
