It’s time to Get vaccinated, Get boosted and Get protected!

30 September 2022

The shorter days and autumnal chill in the air mark the start of the seasonal autumn vaccination programme. This year we are urging everyone who is entitled to a free flu vaccine and a Covid-19 booster to take up the offer of both vaccinations as soon as possible ahead of what is likely to be a difficult winter, with both respiratory viruses in circulation.

Seasonal Covid-19 boosters are being offered to people at highest risk from a Covid-19 infection, to provide the strongest possible protection ahead of winter.

People entitled to a seasonal Covid-`9 booster are:

  • front line health and care staff
  • everyone aged 50 and over
  • people with a weakened immune system
  • those aged 5 and over with underlying health conditions including pregnant people, people with learning disabilities and carers.

Most people entitled to a seasonal Covid booster are also eligible for a flu vaccine, and we are giving both vaccines at the same time, where we can. We also continue to offer first, second and primary booster vaccinations.

When it is your turn to be vaccinated, you will be sent a letter or text message inviting you to book an appointment with your GP, using the online National Booking Service or by calling 119. You can also attend a walk-in vaccination clinic without an appointment. You can find more information about the ways to be vaccinated at www.grabajab.net.

The Covid virus is very good at adapting and the protection that the vaccine provides from becoming seriously ill from coronavirus reduces over time, that’s why people at highest risk from an infection are being offered an additional seasonal booster. By staying up to date with your vaccines you will have the best possible protection and reassurance that you’re keeping yourself, your family, friends and loved ones safe.

Keep up to date with the Covid and flu vaccination programmes in your area.
